Love Down The Memory Lane! PART 1
PART 1
It was raining heavily outside. An old man was sitting on a chair near a window pane. Beside him, was a bed in a dormitory kind of room. He was alone in that dark room. There was a television set put near the door at a place visible to everyone in the room. The monsoon has arrived and so has the memories with it. The old man got up from the chair and took out a small box from the cupboard near his bed. He sat on the bed and opened it. A sudden rush of flashbacks started moving like a film in front of his eyes. He took out one letter from the pile of letters in the box. It took him back to his early age.
It was a letter from his parents declaring that they have fixed his marriage and as soon as his studies gets over, he must come back from hostel. He was startled by the news. He showed that letter to the love of his life, Ragini. Ragini! What a beauty she was!
The old man closed his eyes and another flashback started when he had first seen Ragini. He was sitting in the corridor of his college with his friends. They were in their final year of graduation. A girl came hurriedly in front of them and asked, "Excuse me, can you please tell where's room no. 9? One of his friend asked, "First year?" She replied yes with a nod. The boy smiled meaningfully looking at us. I nodded in denial to his evil intentions of ragging that girl. I don't know why I was behaving in that manner because I was a very unpopular boy in our college. I told her the way to room no. 9 and she thanked me with
a smile which left me senseless. My friends were very shocked and angry at my behavior. But I was lost in my own world, refiguring the beauty in my mind. That girl(of course I forgot to ask her name, so silly of me!) has the beauty which will make anyone go nag! It was not her complexion rather her smile and eyes which cast a spell me. That dimple on her left cheek when she smiled looked like a well-carved depth in that flawless face. Her deep black eyes felt like a serene ocean, one will die to dive in. It didn't take me long to know her name because of my image in the college. To befriend her, I started doing the most unexpected thing, visiting the library as I got to know she was a passionate reader. I took out one of the most popular literary play of Shakespeare -'Romeo-Juliet' and sat next to her. Thanks to the books, they created a beautiful story between us. And in course of time, we fell in love.
It was our farewell night when I showed her my parent's letter. She was broken but somehow managed to handle herself. Deep inside, we both knew this fact that we'll have to face this situation one day because in those days, love marriage was considered equal to sin. She somehow gathered the courage and said to me that I need to move ahead in my life as 'Love is not always about achieving it; sometimes it's about letting go'.
